Ruth Bryce - Speech Therapist and University Strategy Manager of OIC Cambodia

Ruth has been living in Phnom Penh for 13 years with her family, and working with OIC Cambodia for the last 5 years. Her role at OIC Cambodia involves being in the management team, and working with government and other stakeholders to develop a quality Cambodian speech therapy program and profession, which will meet the needs of the 600,000 Cambodians with communication and swallowing difficulties.

During her time with the board, Ruth gave us first hand insights into the incredible work which OIC Cambodia is currently doing; the current challenges in Cambodia, OIC Cambodia’s strategic work in building speech therapy awareness with the Cambodian Government, Cambodian University, health institutions, NGOs and the community with the objective of ultimately garnering Cambodian Government, University support and funding to develop the first university course in a Cambodian University for training Cambodian speech therapists.

Some important facts:

  1. There is currently not one university trained speech therapist in Cambodia.

  2. There are over 600,000 adults and children who need speech therapy services in Cambodia.

Help us to support Ruth and the rest of the team in Cambodia to provide speech therapy services in Cambodia today, please donate if you can.
